A game to spark conversations around the JRC's massive database of EU science reports, the Disjointed Research Machine is an ML-infused word game to foster irreverent inquiry into science and policy making.

Created for the European Union Joint Research Centre and exhibited in BOZAR, Brussels, and JRC, Ispra, as part of Datami | Resonances III, curated by Freddy Paul Grunert.

Commissioned by the Joint Research Centre to spark conversations around their huge database of EU science reports, the Disjointed Research Machine is an ML-infused word game to foster irreverent inquiry into science and policy making.

Players get started by creating their own provocative prompt to play– something humorous, political, or hopeful. Then they answer their challenge in under one minute, using only words from the science reports, while a scoreboard shows players composing their sentences live, comparing them to previous players.
